Creative Arts Therapy

Creative Arts Therapy is an experiential approach to therapy that can bring together art-making, conversation, embodied awareness and creative exploration.

There is no single way a session needs to unfold. We might spend time making, talking, noticing what is happening in the body, exploring an image or metaphor, or moving between these in ways that feel useful.

The act of creating can also sometimes bring something unexpected into the space. As we make, we are given something to respond to, alter and ask questions about. Noticing what is in front of us and remaining present, we can stay curious about the process and what becomes meaningful to you- which is not necessarily the finished artwork.

Some people simply prefer doing therapy this way. You don't need artistic experience or skill; the focus isn't on producing a particular kind of artwork.

Sessions can draw from a range of creative and embodied approaches, including:

  • painting, ink and collage

  • clay and 3D

  • movement, gesture and sound

  • journalling, poetry and storytelling

  • body-based work

  • visualisation

  • symbols and metaphor

  • Guided Drawing

  • eco-arts
