How I work

Whole-process creative arts therapy. We shape the work around what feels most supportive on the day.

Approach

  • Whole-person, whole-process- we attend to body, mind, emotions, identity and context, and work at a pace that isn’t outcome-focused

  • Phenomenological (experience-led) - we describe what’s here, in your words, and don’t analyse or “read” the art; if meaning emerges, it’s yours and in your timing

  • Collaboration and consent

  • Intersectional and inclusive; neurodivergent-affirming

  • Flexible methods: artmaking, movement, writing, voice, imaginal work (guided imagery and symbols) and dialogue based therapy

  • Nervous-system aware (polyvagal informed) pacing; no forced disclosure

  • Somatic awareness and embodied sensing

  • Registered Creative Arts Therapist (AThR) in regular clinical supervision

.

What a session can look like

  • Brief check-in and shared focus

  • I offer different pathways and we may move between them: gentle making, embodied sensing, imaginal dialogue, mapping, reflective conversation - or a mix

  • We move in simple cycles - enter, notice, shape, reflect - with permission to pause anytime

  • We decide together how to finish the session: note what stands out, name supports or next steps; settling is available if helpful

  • No photographs of your artwork are taken without your explicit consent

More detail on my approach

  • Polyvagal informed: noticing shifts between safety, mobilisation, and shutdown; gentle options to shift up or down when helpful

  • Somatic: tracking breath, weight, ground contact, micro-movement, and sensory supports

  • Neurodivergent-affirming: communication and sensory choices (lighting, sound, breaks), predictable pacing, permission to mask/unmask

  • Intersectional and inclusive practice: aware of how identity, culture, and systems shape experience; all parts of you are welcome here

Privacy

  • I keep brief clinical notes and store them securely. Artwork photos are optional and only saved with your explicit consent.
