How I work

Therapeutic Approaches & Guiding Philosophies

At Seedpod Creative Arts Studio I offer a variety of therapeutic approaches to help support people on their healing journeys.  Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, I offer a.therapeutic space that will be shaped around what feels most helpful for you and this can change over time. Working together, we can explore areas of your life at a pace that feels safe and empowering. Creativity and artmaking will be our constant guide.

I am committed to trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming care in all my work. I ensure that therapy is inclusive, responsive and attuned to your lived experience. I also work through an intersectional lens, which recognises that identity, culture and systemic factors can shape our well-being and ensuring that all aspects of who you are honoured in therapy

This page offers a closer look at what guides my approach as a Creative Arts Therapist – including the way I hold space, why creativity is central to my work and how I can support you through both evidence-informed and imaginative pathways.

What Guides My Work

My practice is informed by trauma research, nervous system theory and a deep respect for people’s lived experience.  Below are guiding frameworks that help shape how I support emotional healing and creative insight:

  • Polyvagal theory – understanding how the nervous system moves between states of safety, mobilisation and shutdown- as well as how we can work with this in a gentle, supportive way

  • Somatic awareness – tuning in to the body’s cues for grounding, containment and emotional expression

  • Neurodivergent-affirming care – honouring sensory preferences, communication styles, pacing needs and different ways of thinking and relating

  • Intersectional and inclusive practice – recognising how identity, culture, and systems shape our mental health and making sure that all aspects of who you are is welcomed in the therapeutic space.

These frameworks are fluid and are woven into sessions through tone, pacing and responsiveness.

Therapeutic Modalities

I work with a range of therapeutic modalities that may be integrated depending on your needs and interests. Some of these are explored more fully on the 1:1 Sessions page, but below is a brief overview of the deeper intentions behind them:

  • Embodied and phenomenological approaches – staying close to what’s present in the moment: felt sense, image, creative process, as well as how you experience yourself and the world

  • Transpersonal and imaginal work – engaging with symbol, archetype, dreams, and visualisation as ways of exploring meaning, inner guidance and self-trust

  • Arts-based inquiry – using the creative process to reflect, express, and explore themes that may not be easily accessed through conversation alone

These approaches support insight, regulation, and integration in ways that are often more intuitive, layered, and accessible than traditional talk therapy.

A Note on Depth and Structure

Creative Arts Therapy can sometimes be misunderstood as casual or purely expressive, but I ensure my work is always grounded in clinical care. I integrate psychological insight, body-based awareness and creative process in a way that is intentional, supportive and responsive. There is always room for curiosity, complexity and imagination -held within a steady and ethical frame.

Core Values in Practice

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma not only impacts are thoughts and emotions, but also impacts the body, our nervous systems and our sense of safety in the world. Revisting traumatic experiences too quickly can be destabilising.  That is why I emphasise stability, choice and emotional regulation – with the focus often on building resources and supporting you to reconnect with a sense of safety and agency. Creative expression and somatic awareness are integrated to facilitate healing in a supportive and manageable way.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

I support and honor diverse ways of being, thinking, and sensing .In sessions, therapeutic approaches and pace and flow are adapted to support individual strengths, sensory needs and communication styles- which in turn creates a flexible and inclusive space. There is no "right" way to engage, whether through words, movement or imagery, you are supported in ways that feel natural and empowering.
